Day 13 Define Apprentice

Today is vocabulary day. Skittles favorite day of the week.... Since you can't read sarcasm, I will just tell you, that was sarcastic. The following is a step-by-step process on how to define the word apprentice as demonstrated by Skittles.
  • Step 1- Announce that you already know the definition of the word apprentice and do not need to look it up.
  • Step 2- Reluctantly take out the dictionary and look under the first page of the dictionary and announce, "It is not in here."
  • Step 3- Flip through a few more pages and throw around the word, "stupid" several dozen times along with some other negative words.
  • Step 4- Once again announce "IT IS NOT IN HERE!" Point out that the dictionary goes straight from "ap" to "aq."
  • Step 5- Say under your breath, "It finally appeared," because as everyone knows, Webster's prints their dictionaries using disappearing and reappearing ink.
  • Step 6- Choose the shortest definition, "a beginner," and try to convince your mom that it is clearly the kind of apprentice that John Smith was.
  • Step 7- To appease your mother, read the other 3 definitions and reluctantly admit that John Smith was probably an apprentice who was, "bound by a legal agreement to work for another for a specific amount of time in return for instruction in a trade."
  • Step 8- Very begrudgingly copy the definition into your vocabulary book.
While not funny at the time, even moments like the above story are pretty funny at the end of the day. We have plenty of frustrating moments here, not just happy ones. If you are at home thinking that you are failing because you seem to have more frustrating moments than happy moments, let me assure you that you are not failing. You are normal. It is part of teaching. Trust me, I was a teacher before I had children of my own and there were plenty of days that I went home with a headache and contemplated never going back again. But I always went back to work and I will keep on homeschooling because the happy moments make the frustrating moments worth it.

  1. Skittles found a surprise on our back porch, one of our caterpillars survived and built a chrysalis on our screen!!! It looks like it is ready to emerge any day now!!!
  2. Twizzler is learning how to put a space between his words when he writes a sentence.
  3. I was able to sneak in a bath while Hershey napped and the boys did their writing assignments. It was absolute bliss.
  4. 100 zip ties later, the book shelf in the boys room has been put back together after falling apart earlier this week. All 3 boys helped out.
  5. Both boys got a 95% on their math today. That means they only got 1 wrong.
  6. Twizzler did his English assignment all by himself, well, mostly anyway. Mommy had to help a bit with the spelling.
  7. We are learning rhyming patterns in poetry.

  1. Sounds like you guys did a lot in one day!!! Glad you got the shelves back together and found that caterpillar as well. That will be fun to watch. I couldn't tell you the last time I took a bath either. I am lucky if I can get a shower in once in a while.
